Your Job Sucks But You Need It. What Now?
Fall back in love with your work, plus find the energy for pursuing your dreams.
“That’s not how you should do things.”
“I can’t believe you’re quitting.”
“Now?”
Eyeroll.
These are just some of my former managers’ reactions when I’ve told them I quit.
Yes, I’ve done it a lot. If I had to put everything in my resume, it’s not the type of resume you’d want.
Not just that, I keep telling people to quit any time they’re not happy. Boss is a jerk? Quit. Not satisfied with the pay. Quit. You want more time to work on your dreams? Quit, why don’t you?
I do it because I believe in you. I know you deserve better and can do better.
But!
It has been brought to my attention recently that I live in never-ever land. I was lucky enough to be able to quit all those times. The stars aligned for me: no kids (back then), no debt, supportive parents/partner.
But what if I couldn’t quit? What if I absolutely had to stay? Would that mean that I wouldn’t try other things or achieve other things? Would that mean the end of my growth?
