Umm, I’m a little shaky on the “hurting” of people.
In our lives, there’s always a moment where you discover that you can love people, you can admire people, you can have the desire to learn from people, but that doesn’t mean you’ll always agree with those people, and that’s okay. It doesn’t make you or them less valuable to the world.
I mean, maybe JK Rowling has fans who voted for Trump. Does that mean she have to keep quiet about him too to spare them the pain?
I understand you’re talking about kids here, and I will agree that because your audience is made of developing minds, that maybe you should be extra careful, but other than that, I think it’s on us to feel or not feel hurt, to feel or not feel disappointed in someone, and to deal with it.
It can’t be the other person’s responsibility, or we’d all have to spend all our lives walking on shells.
Just to be clear, I know the emotion you speak of and have felt it on other occasions (recently with Tony Robbins). But I try to understand — these people, while they inspire me in so many ways, can’t be a perfect match to my perspective on the world, and that actually means they’re just people, which , in a strange way, brings me closer to them.
