There’s a Noticeable Change In How People Think About Work.

The world is changed.

I became a freelancer in 2014. I feel old saying it.

Working for yourself is definitely an adjustment. I went through all the ups and downs anyone experiences with it: you enjoy it at first, then you hate it, then you find a way to live with it.

I’ve lived in California and in London for a while, and I’ve always found people working in Starbucks or Costa Cafe fascinating, with their laptops and their coffees to go. They looked so free and successful to me. Like people who get up and decide if they feel like staying at home, grabbing a cup of coffee, or maybe traveling to the other end of the world.

Digital nomadism was still a baby of a concept, but I was drawn to the freedom like a moth to a flame.

Not everyone understood freelancers.

It was only after I started freelancing that I discovered not everyone felt that way. During my decade of freelancing & entrepreneurship, I’ve spent hours upon hours working in cafes, and I’ve seen faces raging from curious to surprised to condescending.

Like they were thinking, “Either get a real job or start a real business.”
