There I lay, in the gloomy room, cold gel spread all over my belly, waiting to hear what I wanted to hear.

“It’ll most probably be a girl.”

Something like that. I mean, that same doctor said my first baby was going to be a boy at 12 weeks pregnant, and this time, I was at 14 weeks. Surely, she knew.

“It’s a boy,” she said after poking me a little to make him move. “Yes, I’m almost certain.”

Well, she was right again. I have two boys.

Since we don’t plan on having a third child, this was a difficult pill to swallow. There’s something sad about not being able to share your girl experience with another girl who will go through the same kind of drama: the boys, the mean friends, the first period.

Now, almost two years later, I can honestly say I’m over it. My boys are so much fun, and they are such good friends already. Their dad can’t wait to teach them to surf and join them for guitar lessons.
