Only Consistency Can Make You A Popular Writer.

Consistency.

See, I don’t even make you read the entire article to get to the good stuff. I’m giving it away in the title.

The only way to become a successful writer is to write consistently. Write every day or on certain days, but regularly, even for as little as 10 minutes. That’s much better than spending entire days writing every once in a while.

You have two options now: you can take that information, whether it’s new to you or a confirmation of what you’ve heard a thousand times, and run with it on your own. Become a consistent, successful writer.

The problem with this is, consistency is difficult. If it were easy, we’d all be fit, our savings accounts would hold fortunes, and bad habits wouldn’t exist.

So, if you’re wondering how to become a consistent writer; how to be consistent even when you don’t feel like it, I suggest you stick around.

Goal setting.

Set the right goals for yourself. Your vision for the future should be pulling you in with such power that you don’t need to push yourself.

Most writers don’t think big enough. They want to make $100 on Medium or a few thousand through freelancing, and that’s it.

Money alone won’t make you happy. Vanity stats won’t either. The future you design for yourself needs to be a comprehensive experience, one that ignites you.

Take the time to figure out your perfect writer’s future. Then keep your eyes on the prize, and feel yourself move a bit closer with every word you type.

Trust the process.

A great goal is great, but if you don’t believe you can achieve it, you’ll constantly find reasons to skip your writing sessions.

I understand the lack of confidence. If your goal is to be the next great writer, but you’re only just beginning to write your first draft; if your goal is to be the next great blogger, but you’ve written just a few articles that don’t get any traction, writing could feel overwhelming, impossible, just a big waste of your time.

Breathe. Remind yourself that what you’re going through right now aren’t failures. You aren’t “stuck”. This is just the writer’s process. You’re exactly where you need to be. Just keep walking.

Fun.

“If it ain’t fun, it won’t get done,” says Marie Forleo and when I first heard that, something clicked.

Deep inside, I didn’t think success should be fun, not unless you’re already successful.

But the road to success is too rough, and you can only endure if you have fun along the way.

It won’t be fun all the time. I’m writing this article with a fever. It takes a bit pushing sometimes.

But I’m writing what I want to write. That makes it fun. I’m meeting my kind of people through my writing. I’m slowly attracting my audience. And hopefully, I’ll help at least one of you create a consistent writing routine that will move them forward.

That’s all fun.

How to have fun writing?

If you’re a copywriter, take on projects you enjoy.

If you’re a novelist, make sure every scene you must write has something that excites you.

If you’re a blogger, write what you believe in, not what you think people want.

Have fun writing for ten minutes a day.

Or 30 minutes every other day.

And know this: you’re inching closer to your goals with every tiny step, even if right now it seems unperceivable.

Final words.

This quote says it better than I can:

“Success is neither magical nor mysterious. Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying basic fundamentals.”― E. James Rohn
