How To Scale Your Writing Business: First Steps.
I hate the business of writing, how about you?
When I hear people talking about “the business of writing”, my stomach drops, and I get nervous tics.
I know exactly what I’ll read: the email lists, the social media following, the courses and ebooks, the marketing advice, selling high-end services, and on and on it goes.
The bad news? They’re right! Writing is a business — but I just want to write. I know I should do everything else, but I hate it. I hate it with the power of a million suns.
The good news? There are many people out there who can handle the business side of things for me if my writing is good.
It’s why I want to be traditionally published. It’s why I blog on Medium and not on my website. It’s why I prefer working with clients paying three digits on Fiverr rather than clients paying five digits who need constant micromanagement.
Not all writers are like me, though. Some of you are all about scaling and earning more — but that doesn’t mean you have it easier. Because working on both the writing and the business is exhausting, either way. With a good system in place, you can do it for a while, but as you’re growing, you’ll be crushed under the weight of your own success.
