As I watched Ukrainians queue on gas stations and sit in traffic, trying to escape the country on the first day of the Russian attacks, I thought, "Why now?"

Why not earlier? Everyone said this would happen. The US and a few other countries brought their Ukraine-based diplomats home. A day before the attacks, Putin recognized Donetsk and Lugansk as countries and sent parts of his army there. It was obvious how things would go down. Why didn't these people flee earlier?

I live in Bulgaria, which is a stone's throw away from Ukraine, just on the other side of Romania. Lately, all I can think about is how to prepare if this thing spreads and remain a normal mother to my children as I'm preparing to flee a war.

Tough one, right?

I'm in denial.

Okay, let's be realistic. Even though Putin is like a crazy person with a machine gun, I do think that he won't attack other countries, especially NATO countries, and he won't use nukes.

The whole world is against him, even leaders he's close with. The president of Turkey, Recep Erdogan, labelled the Russian move as "unacceptable".
