How I Know It’s Been Written By A Beginner

I only recently noticed it.

My freelance copywriting practice turned into a copywriting agency. This is not a brag, it was something that happened in spite of me, to be honest. I’ll tell you all about it in another story.

This story is about what I found out as I was looking for writers to hire.

I was okay with beginners, as long as they were willing to learn and work hard to get better.

It’s difficult, writing. I’ve been at it for years and I still feel like there’s a huge gap between me and the best writers out there. It’s subjective, everyone has their style and their own perspective.

So who am I to judge?

But there was this thing, this one thing that came up repeatedly in the samples I read and after the first ten, I could recognize a beginner from someone who had at least two years writing experience by reading 1–2 sentences.

What do you want to say?

“The hardest thing about writing is knowing what to write.”

Beginners fill the page with unnecessary words, unnecessary sentences, sometimes entire unnecessary…
