Why A Man Makes More Money Doing What I Do

“But you know nothing about copywriting?!”

In 2018, I came into an inheritance enough to compensate for my portion of the income for a few months.

So I finally made a decision I’d been postponing for a while: to stop freelancing.

My husband took the news precisely as I expected: he was understanding but worried. On a career crossword himself, and with his son growing inside of me, my inheritance wasn’t nearly enough to keep him calm about the future.

Over breakfast the following day, he said, “You quit. But I’m taking over. This thing makes us good money; we can’t just leave it.”

“You’re taking over? You know nothing about copywriting.”

“I can handle it. Just promise you’ll help me for the first few months.”

“Okay,” I agreed. In my head, I was already practising my ‘told you so’ speech.

Hubby immediately took over the communication with our clients and asked me to keep writing until he found writers to replace me. Increasingly sceptical, I told him he had two months. I was beyond done with “this shit.”

Well, hubby did it.

Actually, he outdid himself.
