At The End Of The Day, It’s You Against You
Inspired by Matthew Perry.
I wish there was a way to force people to feel how loved they are.
Maybe we can tie them to a chair and tell them all the great things we think about them. Or hug them 400 times per day. Call them? Text? Cook them a meal? Buy them a gift? Hundreds of gifts.
I wish there was a way for Matthew Perry to know.
No. Not to know. I know he knew.
I wish he could feel it, the way the skin feels a whip, but in a good way. Unignorable.
I’ve been having a miserable day today after I heard about his passing.
And yes, I know I didn’t know him. I know I don’t have the right to say I “loved him” in the traditional sense.
But even without knowing him, I could tell he was a man worth loving. I could tell he was a loved man by many who did know him.
The problem is addicts block emotions to deal with trauma. They need to block emotions — that’s why they’re addicted.
Because they block emotions, they can’t feel the love. They can’t share the love. They can’t love themselves enough to understand how much we love them.
